Our resource Teacher has undertaken to prepare and
plant the school garden with some of the children in her class.
We look forward to next year's harvest!
Junior Infants
We planted strawberries.
We planted tomatoes.
We planted peppers. We had to dig big holes then we had to take the strawberry plant out of their container and put the plant into the muck and then we put the muck all back in the hole. We did the same with the tomatoes and peppers. Then we watered them with a watering can. I liked doing it. I think planting is great fun. I'm going to eat the tomatoes and strawberries but not the peppers. I might taste a small bit though.
Senior Infants & 1st Class
There is a path down to the polytunnel and we planted flowers there. One of them is called a 'hedgehog'. We also planted fruit trees, a plum tree, 2 apple trees and a pear tree. Inside we planted runner beans and flowers called morning glory. We are going to plant more flowers to put into flower boxes. We think the polytunnel is wonderful and great. We get to watch the plants grow bigger everyday and can water them everyday. I love it because I get to see my Dad, Padraig, in school everyday too. I think my Dad is fantastic for making the polytunnel and doing so much work for all of us.
1st & 2nd Class
We have a beautiful polytunnel. It has lots of fruit and vegetables. The rhubarb has got very big now and the 4 peas I planted are growing well. My favourite fruit that we planted is the strawberry. The lettuces look really yummy now too. The highest temperature we recorded in the polytunnel was 36C
3rd Class
We planted:
Squash Mix, Aubergines and iceberg lettuces. When we went to the polytunnel Majella put us into groups. Padraig took some outside to plant flowers along the footpath. It was great fun planting all the plants. I cant wait to see all the seeds when they start to grow.
4th Class
We planted kitchen tomatoes. The planting trays with the little tomato plant had jelly in the bottom. We put a bit of this jelly in the bed under the plant. Padraig said it helps to retain water. It was very messy though! We also planted chilli peppers and spinach.
5th Class
Early April 5th class planted strawberries, cauliflower, potatoes, onions, lettuce and carrots. Our strawberries are coming up very well and we have noticed a few slugs have broken into the polytunnel but we managed to remove them before they ate all our hard work. We weed and water the polytunnel as often as possible. We really enjoy having all the healthy fruits and vegetables and we can't wait to eat them soon.

6th Class
Early April we planted Water Cress, Cabbage, Tomatoes, Chives, Cauliflower and French Climbing Beans. We really enjoyed planting all the different vegetables and fruit in our new polytunnel. So far our Water Cress has thrived and we are still waiting for the rest to appear out of the ground.
