Child reading to peers

Reading Recovery is an early intervention programme for children aged about 6 who are not finding it easy to learn to read and write. It involves a daily one-to-one lesson with a specially trained teacher for a period of between 12 and 20 weeks. The daily lessons are tailored to each child's learning needs in both reading and writing. At the end of the period most children have achieved success and improved self esteem and a more positive attitude towards their school work.

This is the second year we have had Reading Recovery in our school and we are delighted with its success. We feel very fortunate to have such a programme in our school.

Our Reading Recovery teacher, Maria McLoughlin, has trained in Limerick Education Centre and is now fully quallified. Mrs. McLoughlin, continues to attend regular training sessions to maintain and refine her skills.
