Parents Association
The Parents' Association was set up in the school in February 2007. Our role is to promote the interest of both parents and children in the school and to adopt a programme of activities which promotes the involvement of all in the school in consultation with the Principal, staff and Board of Management.
There are 19 members of the Parents Association and we do alot of work for the benefit of all our children in the school. We got a school newsletter up and running. This gives the children a chance to give their view on different activities which happens in the school and also keep many parents up to date of the goings on in the school.
All the parents have had a few good nights out at our well supported table quizzes. This would be our main fundraiser every year and every cent of it goes back into the school.
Every Christmas since the association was set up we have arranged for Santa to visit the school. This goes down a great treat with all the children. We have a lovely Christmas tree put up in the school also.We also help out making costumes, props and are hands on for what ever needs doing on the day of the Annual School Christmas Show. Sports Day is also an oppertunity for us to assist the teachers with organising events for the day. We are also able to help out with the Reading Recovery Programme by covering books when the need arises.
The Committee has started to re-cycle uniforms at the end of the school year. This gives parents the oppertunity to purchase uniforms at a fraction of the cost of buying a new one. This would not be ppossible without parents very kindly donationg good condition uniforms their children have out grown.
Our big expenditure in 2009 was donating €1500 to the school towards an interactive white board. This greatly enhanced all our childrens minds and hopefully will let them have an advantage when moving on to secondary school. The school now has an interactive white board in every classroom.
Last November our table quiz raised €1100 for the school and in February we had a Bag Pack in Dunnes in Roscrea which raised €1700. We finished off the school year by organising a whole school table quiz for all the children to participate in. Mrs. Kehoe was presented with a bouquet of flowers on her retiremetnt and we wish her all the best. A thank you card and gift was also presented to the staff to thank them for their hard work and dedication to the children throughout the year.
The Parents Association try our best to accomodate all the children in the school and spend the money that we have on things that we think is best and will benefit all the children.
Please feel free to join us at anytime. New members always welcome!!
