Shinrone National School - A Brief History

There has been a school on this site in Shinrone since 1883. The 1883 building had separate boys and girls schools and it replaced the Boys & Girls Pay School which was situated in 'The Village Green' in Shinrone. The boys school was on the left and the girls was on the right. The schools had separate entrances and were not connected internally.

After 1960 the children were taught in mixed classes but the two halves of the school remained separate and the school was re-named Shinrone Mixed National School.

In 1975 the building was demolished and the site was used for the school we are currently in. The children from the Pike National School, Ballingary transferred to Shinrone when their school closed in the same year.

Below you can see the difference the new extension has made to our school.
