Languages
The official languages of the Republic of Ireland are Irish and English.
All pupils learn Irish and English from the outset. There is no official place for other European languages in the primary curriculum, although a pilot project has been underway since 1998 to introduce European languages (mainly French) into several primary schools.
Shinrone NS was one of the first schools to
participate in the Pilot Programme for Modern Languages in 1998
and continues to do so.
