Sports Hall Athletics

For a number of weeks we do Indoor Athletics with Eamon Henry and Daniel Hoctor from the Offaly Sports Partnership. We work hard at training in order to be able to compete against other schools.

Last year when it came to the big day and we were accompanied to the competition in Tullamore by Mrs. Duggan.
We all did our best at the different sections. First the results were called for the 3rd & 4th Class group....No luck there. Coolderry won both of the trophies.

Next it was time for 5th & 6th to hear their fate. We felt confident, both the boys and girls. The results were read out and Shinrone NS won both the boys and girls section! We were thrilled! We arrived back to school to show the rest of our classmates our medals and trophies. All our teachers were very proud of us. Athletics gives children who don't normally play sports like hurling or football a chance to get active and showcase their talents. It was a big hit with all the pupils in our school.

Swimming

For 6 weeks during the year we go awimming to Mount St. Joseph's Abbey in Mountheaton. The monastery is a really fun place to go swimming. Peter, our swim coach, is really nice.

Tips that you learn:
Peter teaches you how to breathe properly, how you move your legs and arms. Everyday we go to our swimming class we get better at it. We also learn about different ways to swim, the back stroke, front crawl and the breast stroke. To become a good swimmer you must practice at it.
